BAMF of the Day: Aki Ra, a former child soldier in the service of Cambodia’s genocidal Khmer Rouge, now spends his days clearing landmines using a simple pocketknife and a stick. 

To date he has disarmed over ten thousand.

My parents and their families were actually the prisoners of the Khmer Rouge Regime. I lost my grandfather (father’s father) to a landmine and never got to meet him. To see that a former soldier, who was trained to kill and absolutely no mercy, is, for lack of better words, is so nice to see. This man is making a difference, and I support him and his cause.

Here’s hoping that all the thousands of landmines will be removed safely and swiftly.
